Green Initiatives

This Assembly’s National Organizing Committee has incorporated environmental considerations throughout all aspects and stages in its planning process. It is committed to holding a Green Meeting while respecting the needs of delegates to maintain reasonable registration fees.  As such, delegates have been offered the opportunity to voluntarily increase their registration fees by $20 dollars, which will be directed collectively toward a carbon off-setting program run by planetair.   In addition, several initiatives have been adopted to minimize the Assembly footprint at the source.

  • Participants and presenters are advised in advance that the Assembly will strive to minimise environmental impact.  We ask they respect and/or assist this process as they feel appropriate.
  • Printed material will be kept to a minimum and necessary documents will be produced on recycled paper.
  • Hotels chosen are within walking distance of the venue and have an environmentally friendly policy of operations.
  • Montreal’s Palais des congrès, the Assembly’s selected venue, is actively involved in promoting green events.  For more information on their efforts, please see http://www.congresmtl.com/.
  • Sponsors and exhibitors have been made aware of the Assembly's environmental values and are encouraged to keep printed material to a minimum and respect and/or assist this process as they feel appropriate.
  • A variety of other efforts have been incorporated into the daily logistics of the assembly, which, when combined, add up to significant results.  Delegates will notice that recycling containers will be conveniently located throughout the venue.  Coffee and tea will be served in washable cups and water will be provided in bulk rather than individual bottles.  Most advertising and communication with delegates will be provided in an electronic format rather than in hard copy.

The National Organizing Committee understands that different shades of Green exist and that standards have yet to be developed. It hopes, however, that it has been able to strike an appropriate balance between respecting the environment and the financial responsibilities of the Associations it represents.  If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to contact the MOCA-09 Assembly Management Office at +1(613) 993-9495 or via email at
